Stamps are the story of us, and what a powerful story they each tell. America's greatest people, places and moments are memorialized here, honored in the art and story of commemorative stamps.
Here, Heritage is our Hero®.
Black history is inseparable from American history, and the black experience represents a profound and unique strand of our shared story. This stamp recognizes the richness of that experience by celebrating the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the 19th and newest Smithsonian museum. Shaped like a crown inspired by Yoruban architecture, the bronze-colored building is designed to evoke faith, hope, and resilience. Created by an act of Congress in 2003, the museum officially opened on September 24, 2016, on a five-acre site on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
First day of issue: October 13, 2017 Washington, D.C.
The Forever® stamps will always be equal in value to the First-Class Mail® one-ounce price, which is currently $0.50.
